Tinubu administration willing to forge stronger partnership with Catholic Bishops, other stakeholders – Akume
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has said the Federal Government believes that many of Nigeria's pressing challenges can only be addressed through sustained partnership with faith communities, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, the private sector and citizens, stressing that constructive engagement is essential to promoting peace, social cohesion and national development. State govt, police probe killing of Catholic priest in Kogi
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro. Oyetoro was a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe, until his death. The late clergyman, who reportedly hailed from Ayetoro Gbede in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was reportedly stabbed multiple times before his lifeless body was dumped by the roadside in Ajaokuta. The Kogi State Police Command, in its preliminary findings, disclosed that the deceased sustained severe machete cuts to the head. Sources said the cleric was on relief duty in Ajaokuta and had travelled to Lokoja to carry out banking transactions on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, approves the appointments of General Officers Commanding (GOCs) for the newly 12 established Nigerian Army Divisions, following the approval by president Bola Tinubu. The landmark development forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the Nigerian Army's force structure. - Extends PVC Collection The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and peaceful Osun State Governorship Election on August 15, 2026, assuring stakeholders that all critical preparations have been concluded. Speaking at the Osun State Governorship Election Stakeholders' Forum in Osogbo, the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, said the Commission had completed its logistical, technological and operational arrangements and was fully prepared to deliver an election that reflects the will of the people.
