Violence erupts in Ibadan over killing of tricycle mechanic by scrap collectors
Violence erupted in the Ojoo area of Ibadan on Wednesday after a Yoruba tricycle mechanic was allegedly stabbed to death by a Hausa scrap collector. Our correspondent learnt that the incident, which reportedly occurred overnight, created panic among residents and disrupted normal activities as tensions escalated in parts of the community. An eyewitness said that the victim, identified as a Yoruba tricycle mechanic, was allegedly stabbed to death during an altercation involving suspected Hausa scrap collectors. However, the circumstances surrounding the incident have not been officially confirmed by Police Command in Oyo State. The alleged killing sparked outrage among some residents, leading to clashes involving youths and it is raising fears of possible reprisal attacks. The Ondo State Police Command said its operatives have neutralised two suspected kidnappers during a gun duel at Ilu Abo in Akure North Local Government Area of the state. The spokesperson for the command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh in a statement, said the incident occurred on Wednesday at about 3:30 a.m., when a patrol team from the Federal Highway Patrol Unit, Ilu-Abo responded to a distress call regarding the activities of armed men at Olaiya Block Industry, located beside Ilu-Abo High School on the Akure–Owo Expressway. Tragedy: Former deputy governor loses two children in accident
The immediate past Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Baba Tela, has lost two of his children, Mustapha and Ummi, in a fatal road accident. Our correspondent in Bauchi reported that the siblings reportedly died on Saturday after the vehicle conveying them was involved in a crash with a long vehicle (Trailer) on the Bauchi–Azare highway while they were returning to Bauchi from Azare, the headquarters of Katagum Local Government Area.They were said to have died on the spot of the accident due to the severity of the impact.
