President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, effective August 27, 2026. Mr Enitan succeeds Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who will retire soon from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60. Mr Enitan, from Osun State, is the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service. He has served as Permanent Secretary for seven years and seven months, working at the Ministry of Police Affairs, the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education. He brings considerable institutional experience and a deep understanding of how the Federal Civil Service works to his new responsibility. FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WORKS MOVES SWIFTLY TO ADDRESS EROSION CHALLENGE AT OBA
The Federal Ministry of Works has commenced immediate remedial works to address the erosion challenge around the interchange close to the Second Niger Bridge, Oba, Anambra State, following a public alert about the condition of the site on social media. Maitama Flood: Wike Orders Demolition of Houses Blocking Water Channel
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike, has ordered the immediate demolition of houses found obstructing designated water channels in Maitama and other flood-prone areas of Abuja. Wike, who issued the directive after inspecting flood-affected areas in Maitama on Tuesday, said the demolition would commence immediately and continue until Saturday, regardless of the ongoing political activities or the status of the owners of the affected properties. Persistent rainfall in Lagos yesterday disrupted commercial activities and slowed movement across the state as traders, commuters and motorists grappled with the effects of the prolonged downpour. The rain, which began around 5:25 a.m. and persisted until about 4:20 p.m., left several roads and walkways flooded. Pedestrians were compelled to seek shelter in available places with covers while motorists navigated waterlogged sections with caution. Business activities in major commercial areas were significantly affected as many traders recorded low patronage, with customers staying away because of the weather.
