All Progressives Congress(APC) Ward Congress in Idanre Local Government Area on Wednesday erupted in a bloody clash as supporters of two prominent APC chieftains engaged in a battle of supremacy.
Election in most of the wards in the local government was characterised by violence and shooting by suspected political thugs. It was gathered that the crisis started when the two political leaders insisted in electing their loyalists to gain control of wards executives.
Ayemafuge learnt that weapons were freely used by party supporters leaving many with injuries while some of the victims sustained life-threatening wounds.
Speaking on the incident during a radio programme in Akure, the spokesperson for the Police Command in the state, Abayomi Jimoh said operatives have been deployed to the area.
“Right now the Commissioner of Police is on ground and the situation is now under control,” he said.
One of the APC chieftains in Idanre described the attack as “serious and frightening.”
It will be recalled that the state Chairman of APC, Engr Ade Adetimehin, who hails from Idanre Local Government, was on Tuesday attacked by suspected political thugs at the party’s secretariat in Akure during a meeting. Adetimehin fingered the state government and some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers in the state led by their Chairman, Ademola Odudu in the attack.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.
On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. The Malian coach directed his first match, resulting in a 2-0 win against Rwanda during a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Chelle's appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took place on January 7, as he replaced Finidi George and succeeded interim coach Augustine Eguavoen. Since that time, he has dedicated three months to traveling across Nigeria, observing domestic league matches, and engaging with his players based in Europe. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]

Makoko’s Demolition Is Necessary – Lagos Government
Makoko’s recent demolitions have ignited fierce public backlash, casting the Lagos State Government as heavy-handed and insensitive. Yet officials insist the action was driven by safety, environmental risk and long-term regeneration concerns. In this special report, it was explained by the government that by any measure, Makoko is one of Lagos’ most complex urban spaces — socially vibrant, economically productive, historically layered, and physically fragile. Built largely on stilts above the Lagos Lagoon, the community has expanded over decades toward sensitive transport corridors, power infrastructure, and waterways that are critical to the city’s functioning. This reality has long placed Makoko at a delicate intersection between human survival and public risk. Recent demolition activities carried out by the Lagos State Government (LASG) have sparked outrage, protests and deep emotional distress among residents and civil society groups. Three brothers. One promised to serve. One became president
Three brothers. One promised to serve. One became president. One walked among the broken. All three were killed before their work was finished. Their legacy refuses to die. With quiet reverence, we remember John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.—three brothers bound not only by blood, but by an uncommon sense of duty to something greater than themselves.Their lives were marked by triumph and tragedy, by hope and violence. Yet what defines them isn't how they died, but how bravely and compassionately they lived—and how much they sacrificed believing America could be better than it was.Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was the eldest—handsome, brilliant, charismatic. The one their father groomed for greatness, the one expected to become president someday. He carried ambition not as ego but as responsibility. A Harvard graduate, a law student, he seemed destined for politics. But […]
