Don’t relax after Oyo kidnap rescue, IG warns police

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has cautioned officers against complacency following the rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State, saying the operation should sharpen the force’s resolve. Our correspondent attached to the force headquarters in Abuja reported that Disu spoke while addressing senior officers at Force Headquarters, Abuja, during the NPF’s monthly strategic conference, yesterday. He said the rescue demonstrated the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration, crediting its success to cooperation between the police, the armed forces, other agencies and members of the public who supplied information. The IGP urged Nigerians to keep reporting suspicious activity, saying the country’s security environment was complex, with criminal groups constantly adapting.
