Troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) have arrested a suspected foreign supplier of illicit drugs and other prohibited items believed to be destined for terrorist elements operating in the Lake Chad region.
The suspect, identified as Mrs. Rachael Samuel, 48, a Chadian national from Kelo in the Chari-Baguirmi Province of the Republic of Chad, was intercepted along the Maiduguri-Monguno Road in Borno State.
The Acting Military Information Officer of OPHK, Capt. Mohammed Goni, disclosed this in a statement yesterday, saying the suspect was arrested on Thursday, July 9, following credible intelligence.
According to Goni, the suspect was travelling in a suspicious vehicle towards Kwatan Doron Baga in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno state when troops intercepted and searched the vehicle.
He said the items recovered included seven compressed bundles of suspected Cannabis sativa weighing about 30 kilogrammes, two 10-litre containers of hydromercuric chloride, popularly known as “Suck and Die,” one carton containing 48 bottles of dry gin, and 61 bottles of herbal alcoholic beverages, with an estimated street value running into millions of naira.
Other recovered items included one mobile phone, two Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards, personal effects and an undisclosed sum of cash.
Goni said preliminary investigations indicated that the consignment was being transported to locations within the Lake Chad Islands, an area known to harbour terrorist groups.
“The suspect is currently in military custody, while all recovered exhibits have been secured pending handover to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation and prosecution in accordance with extant laws,” he said.
He added that the interception underscored OPHK’s resolve to deny terrorist groups access to logistics and supplies that sustain their operations.
According to him, intelligence has consistently shown that terrorist groups rely on illicit drugs and intoxicants to stimulate fighters, suppress fear and facilitate violent operations.
“By intercepting the consignment before it reached its destination, the troops have disrupted another critical aspect of the terrorists’ support network,” Goni said.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.
On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. The Malian coach directed his first match, resulting in a 2-0 win against Rwanda during a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Chelle's appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took place on January 7, as he replaced Finidi George and succeeded interim coach Augustine Eguavoen. Since that time, he has dedicated three months to traveling across Nigeria, observing domestic league matches, and engaging with his players based in Europe. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]

2027: Storm In Opposition Camp Ahead Consensus-Candidacy
Summit moves by opposition parties to pick a single presidential candidate at their August 31 summit appear to have run into trouble even before the talks take root, Ayemafuge has gathered. Renewed distrust mainly between the camps of the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and that of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, is said to be fast eroding hope of a united front being championed by proponents of the summit. The summit was originally scheduled for August 18 but was shifted to August 31 following consultations by the six participating political parties and members of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives. Their spokesman, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, said the adjustment became necessary in view of the National Peace Summit scheduled for August 18, which was meant to bring together the leadership and […]

Outrage over Atiku’s plan to restore fuel subsidy
Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Atiku Abubakar, had promised to reinstate subsidy payment if elected in next year’s presidential election because, according to him, the money made from the removal of fuel subsidy has not been accounted for by the Tinubu administration. President Bola Tinubu, in a response to the allegation, said it smacked of ignorance. But Atiku insisted in a fresh statement yesterday that the federal government got it all wrong on its intervention in the oil sector. The former vice president described his proposal as a “targeted, capped, budgeted, time-bound and independently audited production-support mechanism tied to domestic production and protected against arbitrage.” Experts who bared their minds on the issue in different interviews with our reporters include the Chief Executive Officer, Economic Associates, Dr. Ayo Teriba; Managing Director, Arthur Steven Asset Management, Mr. Olatunde […]
