A United States law firm working for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Von Batten Montague-York, has said it has been cleared and authorised to commence a $36 million federal lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu and former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, in the United States.
The firm disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday saying the suit would be filed before the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.
Our correspondent in the US reported that the statement reads “We have been cleared and authorized to proceed with a $36 million federal lawsuit against Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (@OfficialABAT) and Ambassador Femi Fani-Kayode in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia.”
The suit arises from threats of kidnap and physical harm to Dr Von Batten, made by Ambassador Fani-Kayode as part of the alleged organised criminal conspiracy involving the Nigerian Presidency.
“As to President Tinubu, this case will test the limits of the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act and head-of-state immunity while Tinubu remains President. The complaint will proceed under applicable D.C. tort law, the FSIA, the Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA), and the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), including 28 U.S.C. § 1605B and 18 U.S.C. §§ 2331 and 2333. Section 1605B addresses specified international-terrorism claims against foreign states, while § 2333 provides a civil remedy to U.S. nationals who satisfy its statutory requirements.
“After filing next week, we will engage with U.S., U.K., and E.U. immigration authorities regarding the alleged extrajudicial threats and whether Ambassador Fani-Kayode’s travel or visa status warrants review. U.S. law provides terrorism-related grounds of inadmissibility under INA § 212(a)(3)(B), 8 U.S.C. § 1182(a)(3)(B), and authority for visa revocation under INA § 221(i), 8 U.S.C. § 1201(i). Any determination will be for the appropriate authorities.”

NECO releases 2026 SSCE results, 58.67% pass English, Mathematics
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining five credits in English language and Mathematics. Dantani Wushishi, NECO registrar, announced the results in Minna, Niger state, on Thursday. Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 candidates sat for the exercise, which commenced on June 15 and ended on July 23, 2026. He disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their performance in english language and mathematics. The 2026 result records 2.64 percent drop in pass rate when compared with the 818,492 candidates representing 60.26 percent that obtained five credits and above, including english and mathematics in the 2025 examination. Tinubu extends vacation in Europe, returns at weekend
The Presidency on Monday announced that President Bola Tinubu has extended his working vacation by a few days. The Presidency said Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria at the weekend. Tinubu departed Nigeria on August 30 for London to begin the vacation before travelling to Paris, France, where he met French President Emmanuel Macron and businessman Vincent Bolloré. A statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said Tinubu had remained in touch with developments at home and continued to direct the affairs of the country while away. Protest as hoodlums invade Nursing School female hostel, rape student
Hoodlums suspected to be robbers, in the early hours of Monday invaded a female hostel at the Taraba State College of Nursing Sciences, Jalingo, attacking the students and carting away valuables. However, the students of the College staged a peaceful protest following the overnight attack on one of the female hostels located outside the institution’s premises. Our correspondent in Taraba state understands that the hoodlums allegedly raped a female student during the attack and inflicted injuries on her, including cutting one of her fingers.
