The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has been thrown into mourning following the death of the chairman of its Ijumu Local Government Chapter, Mayowa Solomon Oyewole.
Oyewole was said to have slumped and died during a reconciliation meeting among party members at Iyara, the local government headquarters, on Friday.
The meeting, convened by a former chairman of the local government, Funsho Olumoko, was said to have been convened to mend fences among warring members and promote unity among the party’s stakeholders in the local government area ahead the 2027 general elections.
“Oyewole suddenly collapsed and died midway into the meeting,” a source said.
Our correspondent in Kogi reported that he was said to have been immediately rushed to a hospital in Kabba but was pronounced brought in dead by a doctor on duty.
Party leaders, stakeholders, members and supporters who were at the meeting with him were thrown into confusion and shock while the news of his sudden death quickly spread in the state.
The cause of his death had not been officially disclosed at the time of filing this report.
The members of A group known as Ogid-omo movement expressed shock over the death of party chieftain.
In a statement issued yesterday and signed by the leadership of the movement, the group described the death as a monumental loss to Ijumu LGA, the APC family and the entire Kogi West Senatorial District.
The statement reads: “It is with heavy hearts and rude shock that we received the news of the sudden passing of our brother, leader and friend, Hon. Mayowa Solomon Oyewole, the APC Chairman, Ijumu LGA.
“His demise is a great loss not only to his family but to the entire progressive family in Ijumu and Kogi State.
“He was a dependable leader who believed in unity, youth development and service to the people.
“His dedication to the ideals of the APC and to the growth of Ijumu will be greatly missed.”

Gunmen ambush, kill two Amotekun operatives in Ondo
The Ondo State Amotekun Corps has confirmed that two of its operatives were killed by armed men in an ambush at Ago-oyinbo farming area, Ala Daadaa, Akure North Local Government of the state.
