Governor Aiyedatiwa nominates 12 commissioners, submits names to the Assembly

Ondo State Governor, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has nominated 12 commissioners to serve in the state executive council. In a Thursday statement, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan disclosed that the names of the nominees have been forwarded to the state House of Assembly for confirmation. The nomination was conveyed in a letter addressed to Speaker of the House, Hon. Olamide Oladiji on Thursday. The commissioner-nominees are Professor Igbekele Ajibefun, Engr Aycrinde Abiola Olawoye, Hon. Ayodele Akande, Engr Alabi Johnson, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, Otunba Adewale Akinlosotu and Mr. Idowu Ajanaku. Others are Dr Oluwaseun Abosede Osamaye, Dr Tob Loko, Mr. Olaolu Akindolire, Hon. Sunday Olajide and Mr. Omoyofunmi Segun Henry. The governor sought expeditious action on his request for confirmation of the nominees in the overall interest of the state.

Ondo begins waterways sanitation to prevent flooding

To reduce the possibility of flooding, the Ondo State government has started a massive campaign to clear clogged waterways in Akure and throughout the 18 local government districts of the state. Professor Joseph Utsev, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, recently issued a warning in which he named Ondo as one of the states at high risk of catastrophic flooding this year.During an inspection on Friday, Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Donald Fasua, said the effort aims to keep the state flood-free throughout the rainy season. He confirmed that two excavators have been deployed to flood-prone areas of Akure to clear clogged channels. In less than 2yrs Gov. Aiyedatiwa records highest domestic debt reduction in Nigeria

Ondo State has emerged as Nigeria’s most fiscally disciplined sub-national government, having reduced its domestic debt by an unprecedented 82.6 percent within a year, the highest and most significant debt reduction recorded among all 36 states. This outstanding achievement is attributed to the strategic economic reforms and financial prudence of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s administration since its inception. Data from the Debt Management Office (DMO) on states’ debt comparison between 2023 and 2024 showed Ondo State at the top in reducing domestic debt in one year. The record shows that Ondo State, under Governor Aiyedatiwa, reduced its domestic debt from N74billion in 2023 to N12billion in 2024, a difference of N61billion and a percentage of 82.6. Discovery: 9.5 foot-tall African spinach plant discovered in Ekiti

In the town of Ikoro-Ekiti in Ekiti State, a massive African spinach that is 9 feet 5 inches tall has been found. The plant locally referred to as Efo Tete, is arguably the tallest in Africa and has aroused both scientific interest and interest from tourists. Ondo, NOA partners on mass immunisation campaign

The National Orientation Agency in Ondo State has announced partnership with the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency for a mass immunisation campaign set to take place from May 3 to 10, 2025. The partnership aims to increase vaccination coverage across the state and improve public health. The Ondo State government has disclosed that 75 percent of health workers in the state, including students studying medicine and nursing, will receive the professional kits donated by Oluremi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu.
