* National boundary commission to carry out delineation on the said location.
At the wake of the approval of commercial oil drilling in Eba Island in Ogun waterside local government council area, Ogun state by President Bola Amed Tinubu as disclosed by His Excellency Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state on 22nd of January 2026 while receiving the flag officer commanding, Western Naval command, Real Admiral Abubakar Abdullahi Mustapha and the senior officers of the command during courtesy visit to his office in Oke-Mosan in Abeokuta, Ogun state.
The governor also announced that President Tinubu has also approved the immediate takeoff of the long awaited Olokola deep seaport project located in Ogun waterside, describing the decision as a major breakthrough after years of anticipation.
Immediately after the announcement by the governor, HRM Oba Kazeem Adesina Salami, the Osobia of Makun in ogu waterside rose up and claimed that the oil well in Eba Island belongs to Makun community land.
The next monarch, HRM Oba (Dr) Samuel Adeoye Edama, the Molokun of Atijere rose up and said the land where the oil well is situated belongs to his community, Atijere in Ilaje local government council area of Ondo state.
The second day of the claim of Molokun of Atijere, the Lenuwa of Ode-Omi, HRM Oba Folailu Adekunle Hassan rose and said his community, Ode-Omi is the natural owner of the same land where the oil well is located in Eba Island. Two of the three monarchs laying claim to the location of the oil well are in Ogun state while Molokun of Atijere is in Ondo state and Ondo state government now used the claim of Molokun to affirm that the land belongs to Ondo state against the pronouncement of the Governor of Ogun state, His Excellency Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The heat of the argument was so tense that President Tinubu was prompted to order the house of representatives to call on the national boundary commission to ascertain who owns the land between Ogun state and Ondo state.
The correspondents of Ayemafuge conducted investigations and it was revealed that the said island belongs to Irokun kingdom.
Ayemafuge visited the incumbent Onirokun of Irokun kingdom, Oba Buari Ola Balogun in his palace in Irokun community, Ogun waterside local government council area of Ogun state on the 4th of this month.
When responding to the questions from our correspondence, Oba Balogun told Ayemafuge that “historically and from time immemorial, my predecessors, Onirokun of Irokun kingdom have been incharge of maintaining the deities established right in the heart of the said island by our forefathers from time immemorial
“And also, since I had been on the throne as the incumbent Onirokun of Irokun kingdom since 2007 I have been doing the normal things to the deities in the island following the footsteps of my predecessors and my ancestors without any questions or challenges from any of my counterparts either from Makun, Ode-Omi in Ogun state or Atijere in Ondo state
“Apart from that, I have been the only monarch who has been appointing and installing baales in Eba Island from time immemorial as the original owner of the said land without any problem
“That is why I remain calm and waiting for the national boundary commission to do justice to the issue as it is believed that after the delineation exercise by the national boundary commission, all the unnecessary agitations by my counterparts about the land will be put to a permanent rest”.
Ayemafuge called the office of the national boundary commission, Abuja for information on the possible time they will start the delineation exercise on the disputed oil well, the officer that was called who pleaded anonymity said the exercise will start soon.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.
On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. The Malian coach directed his first match, resulting in a 2-0 win against Rwanda during a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Chelle's appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took place on January 7, as he replaced Finidi George and succeeded interim coach Augustine Eguavoen. Since that time, he has dedicated three months to traveling across Nigeria, observing domestic league matches, and engaging with his players based in Europe. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]
