Navy commissions 30,000 liter solar-powered borehole in Ondo community
The Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) Igbokoda has established a 30,000-liter solar-powered borehole at its Officers’ Mess complex in Ondo State in an effort to improve civil-military ties.
The water project is a kind contribution from the ADURO Foundation and is a component of the festivities honoring the Nigerian Navy’s 69th Anniversary, which is now being held under the direction of the Western Naval Command in Lagos.
According to Anthony Aduro, who spearheaded the project, the project was built to address the severe potable water challenges the Base has faced since its establishment in 2005.
He said the area’s groundwater had been heavily contaminated, making access to clean water a persistent operational and welfare concern.
the newly inaugurated facility features a specialised purification plant, ensuring safe consumption of water by Naval personnel.
In a show of civil-military partnership, an external six water outlet was also constructed, allowing the Igbokoda Community to benefit from the project.
Esejuwon Oluwaruntimi, Deputy Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area, who represented the Governor of Ondo State, commended the ADURO Foundation and the Navy’s commitment to community development.
Michael Oamen, Rear Admiral and the Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, represented by Command Operations Officer Commodore A. Mohammed, praised both the Foundation and the Commanding Officer of the Base for delivering a project of such a lasting impact.
Aliyu Usman, Captain and Commanding Officer of FOB Igbokoda, in his welcome address, extended gratitude to the project’s benefactors and called on other well-meaning individuals and organisations to support security institutions with similar initiatives.
Usman, however, assured that the Base would maintain the facility to ensure it continues to serve both naval personnel and the surrounding community.
