The Nigerian Navy’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Igbokoda has discovered a significant illegal refining operation in Ojumoka, a riverine community within the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State. The site was found to contain stolen crude oil stored in forty 300-litre drums, totaling 12,000 litres, along with a metal tank capable of holding 10,000 litres.
Captain Aliyu Usman, the Commanding Officer of FOB Igbokoda, reported that the tactical unit of the Navy uncovered the operational illegal refining camp following an intelligence tip-off. He cautioned individuals involved in economic sabotage against the Nigerian state to cease their activities, asserting that the Nigerian Navy is committed to pursuing and prosecuting all maritime criminals.
Additionally, he encouraged riverine communities to stay alert and report any suspicious activities that may indicate criminal behavior or economic sabotage. It is noteworthy that just four days prior, Navy operatives in Igbokoda intercepted a boat carrying approximately 4,200 litres of illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) stored in 137 jerry cans near the Agadagba Naval Outpost in the Ese Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
