The Ondo State Police Command has arrested six suspected cult members during a security operation in the Akoko area of the state, recovering weapons and other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
According to the police, the suspects were apprehended during a raid carried out by operatives acting on intelligence reports about the activities of suspected cult groups within the area. The operation formed part of ongoing efforts to combat cultism and other violent crimes across the state.
Police authorities disclosed that several weapons were recovered during the raid. The items are expected to undergo further examination as investigations continue into the activities of the suspects and their alleged links to criminal networks.
The command stated that the operation was aimed at preventing cult-related violence and maintaining peace in communities where residents have expressed concerns over insecurity. Officials added that intelligence-driven operations would continue in identified hotspots across the state.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to face prosecution if investigations establish their involvement in unlawful activities.
The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to tackling cultism, armed violence, and other security threats, urging residents to continue providing useful information that could assist law enforcement agencies in preventing crime.
Community leaders in the Akoko axis have welcomed the operation, describing it as a positive step toward improving security and protecting lives and property in the area.
