Ukraine identifies two Nigerians k!lled while ‘fighting for Russi’

Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate has revealed that two Nigerian citizens d!ed during a drone strike while serving in the Russian military in the Luhansk region.

In a statement on Thursday, February 12, 2026, titled “Nigerians in a meat assault — the number of identified d3ad Russian mercenaries from Africa is rising,” the agency said Hamzat Kazeen Kolawole (born 3 April 1983) and Mbah Stephen Udoka (born 7 January 1988) were discovered d3ad in the Luhansk region during an attempt to storm Ukrainian positions in late November.

“Both served in the 423rd Guards Motor Rifle Regiment (military unit 91701) of the 4th Guards Kantemirovskaya Tank Division of the armed forces of the russian federation,” the statement said.

“They signed contracts with the Russian army in the second half of 2025: Kolawole on August 29 and Udoka on September 28.”

Udoka “received no training whatsoever” and was deployed to occupied Ukrainian territory “just five days later,” while Kolawole’s training records are missing, though it is “highly likely that he also received no military training.”

Kolawole leaves behind a wife and three children in Nigeria.

“Both Nigerians were k!lled in late November during an attempt to storm Ukrainian positions in the Luhansk region. They never engaged in a firefight — the mercenaries were eliminated by a drone strike,” the statement said.

Ukraine’s Defence Intelligence further warned foreign citizens against travelling to Russia or taking work there.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.

On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. The Malian coach directed his first match, resulting in a 2-0 win against Rwanda during a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Chelle's appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took place on January 7, as he replaced Finidi George and succeeded interim coach Augustine Eguavoen. Since that time, he has dedicated three months to traveling across Nigeria, observing domestic league matches, and engaging with his players based in Europe. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]

Three brothers. One promised to serve. One became president. One walked among the broken. All three were killed before their work was finished. Their legacy refuses to die. With quiet reverence, we remember John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Joseph P. Kennedy Jr.—three brothers bound not only by blood, but by an uncommon sense of duty to something greater than themselves.Their lives were marked by triumph and tragedy, by hope and violence. Yet what defines them isn't how they died, but how bravely and compassionately they lived—and how much they sacrificed believing America could be better than it was.Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. was the eldest—handsome, brilliant, charismatic. The one their father groomed for greatness, the one expected to become president someday. He carried ambition not as ego but as responsibility.
