Lebara Nigeria on Wednesday formally signalled its entry into Africa’s largest telecoms market, hosting a private soft launch and networking reception in Lagos in partnership with the UK’s Department for Business and Trade and the British High Commission.
The event drew senior government officials, regulators, investors, and industry leaders, underscoring the diplomatic and commercial weight behind the company’s arrival.
The formal entry follows groundwork laid in June last year, when the company unveiled its dedicated 0724 number series and confirmed it had secured full interconnectivity with major mobile network operators across the country, a key requirement ahead of commercial rollout.
Chief Executive Officer of Lebara Nigeria, Teniola Stuffman, told guests that the company’s entry into the market was driven by a conviction that Nigeria represents a defining moment for inclusive and globally connected digital access.
Lebara Nigeria has proudly secured a Tier 5 Mobile Virtual Network Operator licence, the top tier under Nigeria’s telecom regulatory framework. This achievement sets the stage for the company to offer competitive mobile services across the country.
In preparation for its commercial launch, Lebara Nigeria has established full interconnectivity with all major mobile network operators nationwide, ensuring seamless communication for its users. Additionally, the company introduced its exclusive 0724 number series, marking a distinct identity in the Nigerian telecom market.
With these key steps in place, Lebara Nigeria is well-positioned to enter the market and provide customers with reliable, innovative mobile services backed by the highest regulatory certification.
Functioning as a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), the company is utilizing national infrastructure via a collaboration with Airtel Nigeria, which enables it to concentrate on product innovation, international connectivity, and enhancing customer experience.
Stuffman remarked that this partnership would allow Lebara to engage with Nigeria’s expanding diaspora economy, facilitate cross-border trade, and explore roaming opportunities, thereby positioning the company as a link between Nigerians domestically and internationally.
“Nigeria must not only establish internal connections; it must also forge global links,” she stated, emphasizing that Lebara’s worldwide presence distinctly positions it to improve international connectivity options for Nigerians in various markets where they reside and work. In addition to fundamental telecommunications services, the company revealed intentions to incorporate financial and creative-economy support initiatives into its offerings.
These initiatives encompass microloans, device financing, Lebara-powered internet hubs, and culture-oriented events designed to bolster Nigeria’s arts, tourism, and creative industries. The event also functioned as a venue to recognize regulators and policymakers, whose supervision, according to Stuffman, continues to influence a resilient and progressive telecommunications sector. Characterizing the launch as “a signal for change,” she indicated that Lebara’s entry was not solely about entering a competitive market but about reinforcing Nigeria’s global connectivity framework through responsible and scalable investments.
Having obtained the necessary regulatory approvals and established infrastructure partnerships, Lebara Nigeria is now part of the growing telecommunications sector in the country. It positions itself as a globally focused operator that emphasizes affordability, connectivity for the diaspora, and services driven by digital technology.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.
On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]
