The police in Ondo State have arrested a man, Amos Paul, for allegedly burning his 10-year-old daughter’s private parts with a hot pressing iron to punish her for bedwetting.
Ayemafuge learnt that the incident occurred in Unaun, Upenme in Owo Local Government Area, and has sparked widespread public condemnation.
A statement by the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the incident was reported to the Police on Thursday.
“The victim sustained severe injuries and was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, where she is currently receiving medical treatment.
“Upon receipt of the information, detectives from ‘A’ Division, Owo, swiftly mobilized to the scene, arrested the suspect without delay and took him into custody.
“The case is being transferred to the Gender Unit for discreet investigation and further necessary action in line with established procedures.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, Felix Ohagwu, has condemned the alleged act in the strongest terms, describing it as cruel, inhumane and completely unacceptable.
“He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting children and other vulnerable members of society from all forms of abuse, violence and exploitation.
“The Commissioner urged members of the public to promptly report cases of child abuse, domestic violence and other related offences to the nearest police station, assuring that the Command will continue to ensure that offenders are brought to justice,” the statement read in parts.

Three siblings die as boat capsizes in Kano Three siblings have lost their lives after a boat capsized at Tiga Dam in Tudunwada Local Government Area of Kano State. A former Dunamis Church pastor, Hills Emmanuel, who was kidnapped by suspected gunmen along the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos road in Plateau State, has been found dead. Emmanuel, a Ghanaian-Nigerian cleric and founder of The Wonderful Grace of God Evangelical Ministry in Bokkos, was abducted on Friday, August 28, alongside Pastor Gabriel Joseph Dipak of the Christ Apostolic Church. The two pastors were travelling from Jos to Bokkos when their commercial minivan was intercepted by gunmen who reportedly mounted a roadblock on the Barkin Ladi-Bokkos road. NPC chairman dies at 66, eight months after assuming office
The Chairman of the National Population Commission(NPC), Dr Aminu Yusuf Wushishi, is dead. Wushishi died on Friday at the age of 66. His death has thrown his associates and political circles into mourning. Wushishi, a former Secretary of the Niger State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, was said to have taken ill shortly before his death.
