4.0 OBSERVATIONS
Arising from the speeches, paper presentations, and contributions of participants, the following observations were made:
1. Poverty: The problem of Ilaje is not dichotomy per se but that of abject poverty. The narrative that dichotomy is the bane of our underdevelopment is no longer tenable and should be discarded. Dichotomy is not exclusive to Ilaje nation.
2. Weak Human Capital: Lack of capacity and poor educational foundation have contributed more to our underdevelopment.
3. Environmental Degradation: Our environment makes infrastructural provision much more expensive than what is obtainable upland.
4. Political Marginalization and Unbalanced development arising from predatory political ascendancy and ego-centrism.
5. Collapse of community governance structure
6. Project implementation failures and conspicuous absence of monitoring and evaluation mechanisms.
7. Limited infrastructure and social amenities: Lack of road, inadequate healthcare, and poor education facilities
5.0 RECOMMENDATIONS
To therefore combat these challenges and accelerate Ilaje development, the Conference resolved as follows:
To establish a higher institution in Ilaje land in order to promote sound education, reduce out of school children ratio, reward excellence and innovation in form of incentives.
To tackle our environmental challenge, it was recommended that there is a need to drain the rivers that traverse Ilaje land into the sea by deliberately opening up four of the estuaries to dry up the wet terrain and make them available to agriculture and oil and gas activities.
To stimulate economic activities, we should encourage SMEs incubation in all the twelve wards of Ilaje local government area.
Political power must be deliberately used for the development of the area.
To put up a dispute resolution mechanism for Ilaje land.
To identify and coordinate all forces, factors, resources and sources for the development of Ilaje land.
It was agreed that we should capitalize on, seize upon and utilize every opportunity available to fast track the rapid development of our area.
We must monitor, protect and provide enabling environment for the development of projects in our land.
To secure the land and encourage external investments, we shall advise, cooperate and collaborate with government and security agencies to ensure and provide a well secured environment, without which development efforts and sacrifices could be in vain.

Rwanda vs Nigeria: Chelle reignites the Super Eagles’ aspirations for the 2026 World Cup in Kigali.
On Friday, Eric Chelle became the inaugural non-Nigerian African coach to take the helm of the Super Eagles. The Malian coach directed his first match, resulting in a 2-0 win against Rwanda during a qualifying round for the 2026 World Cup. Chelle's appointment by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) took place on January 7, as he replaced Finidi George and succeeded interim coach Augustine Eguavoen. Since that time, he has dedicated three months to traveling across Nigeria, observing domestic league matches, and engaging with his players based in Europe. However, his initial team selection remained perplexing. Chelle opted for a highly offensive formation in Kigali, which appeared unbalanced on paper. Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]

ATIKU CONFUSED ON PETROL SUBSIDY
* THIRD U-TURN IN ONE WEEK SHOWS HE IS SIMPLY PLAYING POLITICS The latest comments by former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on petrol subsidy raise a fundamental question: is he seriously proposing an economic policy, or is he simply playing politics with the temporary discomfort Nigerians face? Within a week, Nigerians have heard three different explanations of what an Atiku administration would do about petrol subsidy. The confusion has now become impossible to ignore. First, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, said Atiku would restore petrol subsidy if elected president and later phase it out. Ibe described it as a temporary intervention intended to give Nigerians and businesses room to recover. Then came a clarification from another senior aide, Phrank Shaibu, who said Ibe’s statement was an “unauthorised and misleading characterisation” of Atiku’s position. According to Shaibu, Atiku would not set a predetermined […]

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on local government chairmen nationwide to make fairness, equal representation and inclusiveness central to their approach to governance. He urged them to ensure that appointments, administrative decisions and the allocation of public resources reflect the diverse interests of the people they serve. The President made the call on Monday in Abuja through the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume CON, who delivered his keynote address at a workshop organised by the Federal Character Commission for local government chairmen. The workshop focused on practical ways of applying Federal Character principles effectively at the grassroots level. Speaking on the theme, “Translating Federal Character Principles into Local Governance: Bridging Policy and Practice,” Tinubu described Nigeria’s cultural, ethnic and religious diversity as a valuable national asset. He stressed that this diversity must be managed […]

2027: Storm In Opposition Camp Ahead Consensus-Candidacy
Summit moves by opposition parties to pick a single presidential candidate at their August 31 summit appear to have run into trouble even before the talks take root, Ayemafuge has gathered. Renewed distrust mainly between the camps of the candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and that of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, is said to be fast eroding hope of a united front being championed by proponents of the summit. The summit was originally scheduled for August 18 but was shifted to August 31 following consultations by the six participating political parties and members of the Minority Caucus of the House of Representatives. Their spokesman, Salihu Mohammed Lukman, said the adjustment became necessary in view of the National Peace Summit scheduled for August 18, which was meant to bring together the leadership and […]

Outrage over Atiku’s plan to restore fuel subsidy
Presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Atiku Abubakar, had promised to reinstate subsidy payment if elected in next year’s presidential election because, according to him, the money made from the removal of fuel subsidy has not been accounted for by the Tinubu administration. President Bola Tinubu, in a response to the allegation, said it smacked of ignorance. But Atiku insisted in a fresh statement yesterday that the federal government got it all wrong on its intervention in the oil sector. The former vice president described his proposal as a “targeted, capped, budgeted, time-bound and independently audited production-support mechanism tied to domestic production and protected against arbitrage.” Experts who bared their minds on the issue in different interviews with our reporters include the Chief Executive Officer, Economic Associates, Dr. Ayo Teriba; Managing Director, Arthur Steven Asset Management, Mr. Olatunde […]
