The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old woman, Rabi Abubakar, for allegedly pouring boiling water on her pregnant co-wife during an altercation in Daba Village, Bauchi Local Government Area.
The incident, which reportedly occurred on July 17, saw the victim subsequently rushed to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi.
The police said that while receiving treatment and despite sustaining severe burns, the victim gave birth to a baby boy on July 19.
The newborn, who reportedly suffered severe burn injuries, died the same day.
The victim was, however, said to be stable and responding to treatment.
According to a statement issued by the spokesman of the Command, SP Nafiu Habib, the suspect was traced and arrested following a report received from the Dabe Police Outpost, Soro Division, on July 22.
The command said the suspect allegedly confessed to the offence during preliminary interrogation.
The suspect is currently in police custody while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the incident, assuring the public that the command would ensure diligent prosecution.
He urged residents to embrace peaceful resolution of disputes and report cases of domestic violence to the police for prompt intervention.

Kuje prison officer dies after allegedly shooting at commander
A senior non-commissioned officer(SNCO) at the Kuje Medium Security Custodial Centre in Abuja has been found dead after alleged shooting incident at the facility. The incident happened at about 9:37 am on Monday, September 7, while personnel were on duty at the custodial centre. According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the SNCO fired at the commanding officer but missed after the officer moved away. The SNCO was later found with a self-inflicted gunshot wound and died from the injury. “The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and an investigation has been launched to establish what led to the shooting,” Makama reported. The remains of the SNCO had been evacuated to the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital for further investigation.
Thugs attack Peter Obi’s convoy in Benue
Suspected thugs on Tuesday reportedly attacked the convoy of the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, along the Gboko-Makurdi Expressway in Benue State. Customs hands over N3.95b seized drugs to NDLEA
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Federal Operations Unit, Zone ‘A’, has handed over narcotic drugs and pharmaceutical products worth N3.95 billion to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for investigation and prosecution. The items, intercepted during anti-smuggling operations along border corridors, highways and other strategic locations within the zone, included 3,116.9kg of synthetic strain of cannabis sativa in 5,669 parcels and 19 sacks. Also seized were cannabis, including 3.45kg of grinded cannabis (Skunk), 1kg and 0.35kg of granulated cannabis, as well as 26.1kg of cannabis in 49 wraps. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, on Thursday, 3rd September 2026, presented cheques totalling ₦2,317,177,094.00 to 2,971 beneficiaries and next-of-kin of deceased Police Officers under the Group Life Assurance, Group Personal Accident and IGP Family Welfare Schemes. The beneficiaries comprise families of Police Officers who died in service and are covered under the 2017/2018, 2018/2019, 2020/2021, 2021/2022, 2022/2023 and 2024/2025 insurance policy years. The payments also include outstanding balances recovered from insurance companies following earlier partial settlements.
