Gunmen in early hours of Saturday stormed a health facility in Oke Ijebu area of Akure, the Ondo State capital, abducting medical personnel on duty. Ayemafuge learnt that the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m at a health centre located opposite Mega School, Akure.
According to impeccable sources, the gunmen reportedly arrived in a bus and forcefully gained entry into the facility. Eyewitness disclosed to our correspondent that the attackers overpowered the few people present at the facility before rounding up health workers who were on night duty and some patients.
A patient at the centre who narrowly escaped, said that the gunmen operated freely without resistance.
He said; “hey came in a bus and entered the hospital forcefully. Before anyone could react, they gathered all the staff on duty and marched them outside. They took about six of them away,” the witness said. Residents have expressed shock over the daring nature of the attack, describing it as a disturbing escalation of insecurity in the area.
They called on relevant authorities to intensify surveillance and ensure the immediate and safe return of the abducted health workers. Meanwhile, the Amotekun Corps has rescued five persons in two separate overnight operations in Akure South Local Government Area.
Adetunji Adeleye, the Corps Commander, stated that a 45-year-old man and his 15-year-old son were abducted at Pelebe on Oda-Akure road, between 7:30 p.m and 8:00 p.m.
Adeleye disclosed that the victims were rescued at about 1:00 a.m by the corps after a confrontation with the kidnappers. He further stated that three health workers, earlier abducted at Oke Ijebu Health Centre were freed at about 4:30 a.m and currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
Adeleye assured residents of the protection of lives and property.

Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon were all included in the attacking lineup, while Alex Iwobi and Wilfred Ndidi occupied the midfield positions. "I had mixed feelings. […]
