A farmer in Ondo State, Bright Kalu, has called for justice following the tragic killing of his 18-month-old daughter at a farm settlement in Idanre Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly occurred at Agoti Settlement on June 8, leaving residents shocked and prompting an ongoing police investigation.
According to the grieving father, the child was at the family’s farm camp with her mother and siblings when an unidentified assailant allegedly attacked the area. During the incident, the mother managed to rescue three of her children, but the toddler was separated from the family.
The child’s body was later discovered, triggering widespread concern among residents of the community and calls for a thorough investigation.
Kalu appealed to security agencies and relevant authorities to ensure that those responsible for the crime are identified and prosecuted. He described the loss of his daughter as devastating and urged the government to strengthen security around remote farming settlements.
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that a suspect has been arrested in connection with the case. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and establish responsibility.
Community leaders and residents have also condemned the killing, calling for swift justice and improved protection for families living and working in rural areas.
The case has drawn attention across the state, with many expressing sympathy for the bereaved family and urging law enforcement agencies to ensure a transparent investigation.
