The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dayo Faduyile, as the winner of the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election.
The by-election was conducted across the six local government areas that make up the senatorial district to fill the vacant seat previously occupied by Senator Jimoh Ibrahim following his appointment as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Announcing the results at the collation centre in Okitipupa, the Returning Officer, Professor Gbenga Solomon-Ibileye, declared Faduyile winner after securing the highest number of valid votes cast in the election.
According to the official results, the APC candidate polled 68,474 votes to defeat his closest rivals from other political parties. Adeolu Akinwunmi of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) came second with 1,411 votes, while candidates of the Action People’s Party (APP) and Boot Party (BP) garnered 213 and 70 votes respectively.
INEC officials described the exercise as largely peaceful, with voting taking place across Okitipupa, Ilaje, Ese-Odo, Irele, Odigbo, and Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo local government areas. The commission noted that lessons learned from the exercise would help strengthen preparations for future elections.
Following the declaration, supporters of the APC celebrated the victory, which further strengthens the party’s representation in Ondo State. Political observers believe the outcome reflects the party’s strong presence in the senatorial district.
Faduyile is expected to represent Ondo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly and complete the tenure associated with the vacant seat. The election attracted considerable attention from political stakeholders across the state due to its significance in the region’s political landscape.

Ondo ‘monkey tail’ tragedy: Seven victims suffered total, partial blindness – NAFDAC
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) confirmed that seven people have suffered from total or partial blindness after consuming methanol-contaminated alcoholic and herbal concoctions in Ondo State.
