The Nigeria Police Force has announced restrictions on movement across affected areas ahead of the Ondo South Senatorial District by-election, as part of efforts to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
In a statement issued before the poll, the police said the temporary restriction would be enforced during designated hours on election day to maintain order, prevent disruptions, and enhance the safety of voters, election officials, and other stakeholders.
The command also disclosed that a large number of security personnel, including police officers and other security operatives, have been deployed to strategic locations within the senatorial district. The deployment is aimed at preventing electoral violence, vote-buying, intimidation, and other forms of misconduct that could undermine the exercise.
According to the police, patrol teams, tactical units, and intelligence officers have been mobilized to monitor activities before, during, and after the election. Residents were advised to cooperate with security agencies and comply with all directives issued for the smooth conduct of the poll.
The command warned individuals and groups against carrying weapons, causing disturbances, or engaging in any activity capable of disrupting the electoral process. It stressed that offenders would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Political parties, candidates, and supporters were also urged to conduct themselves peacefully and respect electoral regulations throughout the election period.
The police reassured voters of their commitment to safeguarding lives and property while creating a secure environment for eligible residents to exercise their democratic rights.
Observers say the enhanced security measures reflect the importance of the by-election and the determination of authorities to ensure a free, fair, and transparent voting process across the Ondo South Senatorial District.

The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro. Oyetoro was a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe, until his death. The Federal Government has spoken in loud and unambiguous terms to South Africa. It told South Africa’s International Relations and Cooperation Minister, Ronald Lamola, in Abuja yesterday that 98 Nigerians have been killed in the past four years and therefore must stop.
